CARTHAGE, Mo. —
They may not attract much attention from the uninitiated, but new mattress manufacturing machines are some of the star attractions at the International Sleep Products Assn.'s trade shows.
Leggett & Platt is stepping forward at the ISPA Expo in Charlotte, N.C., with more than a dozen new mattress machines for use in mattress cell production. The machines, being offered by L&P's Global Systems Group, are designed to combine jobs and workstations to eliminate non-value added labor, the company said.
New machines, being shown in the L&P booth, space 2625, cover a full range of mattress production tasks, including quilting, sewing, build-up and packaging.
Among the GSG highlights:
-
The PCL-1000 Cinch-Loc gusset machine. Porter International developed this machine, which applies Cinch-Loc, a drawstring material from Matrex, to the center of pillow-top gussets. This provides a fast, easy way to build a ruffled pillow-top bed in a fraction of the time required by any other method, the company said.
-
The PALS 2000 border label machine. Porter International is demonstrating this new automated label sewer, dedicated to sewing labels onto mattress borders.
-
A zipper machine. Porter International debuts a zipper machine that adds zipper material to the top edge of a mattress border and joins with the mattress quilt panel during the tape-edge operation. This method provides an efficient way to remove and re-attach the mattress top panel, a feature gaining popularity in the bedding market.
The Global Systems Group is a division of Leggett & Platt. It will be demonstrating a total of 13 new machines at the ISPA show.
