Leggett & Platt introducing VertiCoil Edge

By David Perry -- Furniture Today, March 1, 2010

There are some new turns in the Leggett & Platt innerspring portfolio. Say hello to VertiCoil Edge.

The bedding components major is showing a number of innerspring products at the International Sleep Products Assn. Expo this week. Its newest innerspring offering is the VertiCoil Edge, which follows the introduction of L&P's VertiCoil, the most successful launch in the history of L&P's Bedding Group.

VertiCoil Edge features a unique shape designed to create a comfortable sleep surface that responds to the body as weight is applied to the mattress. L&P developed its own advanced, wire-forming, computerized machinery to produce VertiCoil Edge. The coils are engineered and oriented in an alternating configuration, ensuring uniform firmness throughout the mattress, the company said.

L&P also is showing its Body Print Coils, which are designed to flex and conform independently of one another to reduce motion transfer and minimize partner sleeping disturbance. The coils are encased in noise-reducing Quantum Fabric, the company said.

In addition, L&P is showing Superlastic PRO, a three-turn, seven-inch tall alternating continuous coil innerspring designed to increase a mattress's vertical profile, without the need for the extra cost of raw materials associated with traditional foams, fibers and other comfort materials.

Superlastic PRO is eco-conscious and environmentally friendly. It requires fewer raw materials than its upholstery counterpart and is made from recycled steel, L&P said. It noted that the unit provides more sleep support and comfort; its coil count of 600 ensures that every part of the sleeper's body is properly supported. The continuous coil support system distributes weight evenly across adjoining coils, improving mattress stability and reducing non-vertical deflection. That means fewer pressure points and provides improved stability, support and comfort, according to L&P.

The producer also is showing its Prodigy adjustable bed base, which offers an interactive sleep experience with a bed that features advanced technology, including a Gentle Wake Alarm, a Sleep Timer, an iPhone/iPod application, and two-way, Wi-Fi remote control with an LED screen.

The company also is exhibiting its ShipShape flexible mattress foundation. It is a lightweight, adjustable mattress foundation that allows consumers to customize mattress sets at a value price point, L&P said.

L&P's Hanes Inds. unit is introducing a new solution for flame-resistant bedding: Stratus Titan, a barrier cloth.

And Edge Support Encasement, the newest offering from Flex-O-Lators, is a custom-engineered polyethylene profile designed exclusively for VertiCoil innersprings, providing continuous perimeter sleep surface support.
