City of Hope golf tourney to honor Lawrence

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, March 9, 2008

Bob Lawrence, CEO of buying group Brand Source, will be honored June 2 at the West Coast Golf and Tennis Tournament to raise money for City of Hope.

After a day on the fairways and courts of the Coto de Caza Golf and Racquet Club here, industry members will raise their glasses at a dinner and reception to toast the philanthropic and professional achievements of Lawrence.

Since its inception in 1989, the West Coast tournament has raised more than $4 million for City of Hope, a California-based medical research and treatment center for cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Last year's event was attended by more than 500 industry members and raised nearly $900,000.

Lawrence spent 15 years at Maytag Corp. before joining Brand Source in 1994. Since then, the buying group's membership has grown from 800 to 4,000, with an annual buying volume of $11 billion. Program offerings and the number of supplying companies also have expanded.

Lawrence is a supporter of City of Hope and also serves on the board of the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

"City of Hope's mission to rapidly move scientific discoveries into more effective treatments is remarkable," he said. "Our industry has a long-standing tradition of support for the work of the institution's physicians and scientists. I'm proud to be a part of our ongoing commitment to bring hope to cancer patients everywhere."

For more information on the tournament or to make a reservation, go to www.cityofhope.org/nhfi/tournament or contact Michael Sandler at (800) 272-2310 or at msandler@coh.org.
