Bentonville, Ark. — Wal-Mart rolled out an array of furniture last week as part of its new Canopy home furnishings brand, sold online and in some stores.
In addition to furniture, the Canopy line includes top-of-bed, bath accessories, dinnerware and décor. A press release promises that prices will be up to 40% below those of competitors.
"The new Canopy line strengthens our home brands portfolio and continues our focus on offering the products our customers want at the price they expect from Wal-Mart," Linda Hefner, executive vice president of home at the giant retailer, said in a press release.
Furniture products include bedroom, upholstery and home office, among other items. Its home office and bedroom lines include ready-to-assemble product from Creative Interiors, a division of Thomasville, and Sauder Woodworking.
Wal-Mart said the Canopy launch will be expanded into additional home categories, in stores and online, this summer and fall.
In addition, the retailer said it will launch a Better Homes and Gardens home furnishings line in the fall, in cooperation with magazine publisher Meredith Corp.
The Canopy line can be seen online at www.walmart.com/canopy.
