Maiden, N.C. — Touch-Up Solutions, a source for leather and furniture repair kits, has taken a new approach to touch-up products: It now works closely with furniture manufacturers to develop co-branded touch-up products that directly match the finishes on their particular furniture lines.
Troy Pait, president of Touch-Up Solutions, said that his company is working directly with Baker Furniture, Kincaid, Ethan Allen, Flexsteel, Sligh and Best Home Furnishings. Customers or retailers can go to Touch-Up's Web site to get touch-up products that have been approved by the manufacturer — along with instructions on how to use them.
Touch-Up also is developing a color match system for leather upholstery, to complement what's being offered for case goods. This new product will be launched in May.
"When a customer goes on line to order something, what we will be offering on our Web site for leather, as we do for wood finishes being matched, will be the manufacturer's specifications of color, not what we think looks good," said Pait.
Pait said that another benefit of the program is that the dealer or consumer need only order what's needed, which is then drop-shipped directly from Touch-Up Solutions.
"You don't have to order $100 worth of stuff to get one marker," said Pait.
Pait said another advantage to retailers is that the touch-up kits can be used as a way for retailers to build goodwill with consumers.
"My wife and I bought a new Prius and we never got a thank-you note or anything," said Pait. "What if you bought $5,000 worth of furniture and two weeks later, you received a touch-up kit that says 'thank you for your business'?
"It doesn't cost much money, but I guarantee you will get it back a whole lot quicker when you've got a big 'thank you.'"
