Toronto sets summer furniture show for Aug. 8 to 10

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario — The Toronto Summer Furniture Show will be held Aug. 8 to 10.

In a change from previous years, the annual CHFA Golf Classic will be held mid-market, on Monday, Aug. 9. It typically has been held after the show.

Organized by the Canadian Home Furnishings Alliance, the Toronto Summer Furniture Show involves companies that have permanent showrooms in or near the International Centre. Some 32 showrooms took part in last year's show.

The show is the industry's only mid-year event specifically for Canadian furniture retailers.

"This is an excellent opportunity for independent retailers to review new product in advance of the all-important fall selling season," said Laine Reynolds, CHFA chairman.

"Many TSFS participants are smaller manufacturers and importers/distributors who do not show at either High Point or Las Vegas," he said. "They can show new product now without waiting until the Canadian Home Furnishings Market in January."

As usual, the Toronto Summer Furniture Show will overlap the semi-annual trade show organized by the Canadian Gift & Tableware Assn., which is scheduled to run from Aug. 8-12 at both the International Centre and the nearby Toronto Congress Centre.

The CHFA's annual Golf Classic - one of the industry's largest annual tournaments - will be held during the show. It will move to a new course, the Caledon Woods Golf Club, which is located in Bolton, Ontario - about a 20-minute drive from the International Centre.

"Holding the golf tournament during the summer show provides an outstanding networking opportunity for suppliers and retailers alike," said Reynolds, who is also vice president of sales for upholstery specialist Superstyle Furniture.
