DALLAS – Amy Archer has joined custom upholstery specialist American Leather as director of merchandising, a new position.
With 25 years of industry experience, Archer has held positions on both the manufacturing and retail sides, including sales and merchandising. She is also known as a trend and consumer behavior expert.
Archer was with Rowe Furniture for 10 years, as creative director for its Robin Bruce upholstery division and as co-designer of Rowe product. She also has worked for retailers Scandinavian Design, Domain and In Home Furnishings.
The new position signals American Leather’s increased focus on creating furniture lines that address today’s changing marketplace.
“I have the great luxury of working with great designers such as Rob Jones, Vladimir Kagan, Rick Lee, Dave Westendorf, Louis Lara and Paolo Favaretto, who bring design ideas and inspiration to life,” Archer said. “That makes my job much more interactive.”
Her unconventional insight into consumer trends also will play a large part in the direction of American Leather’s future designs, which she playfully calls “sexed up contemporary.”
Archer intends to put her ideas to work using innovative leg designs, special thread details and other interesting touches. “It’s like putting a great piece of jewelry with a classic suit,” she said.
Archer reports to President Bruce Birnbach, who said, “Amy brings a savvy, provocative perspective to retail merchandising that is unique in this industry. As a company, we are energized and well positioned this year to significantly impact our presence among retailers and with consumers ... and Amy will be instrumental in leading this charge.”
