Appalachian Hardwood Manufacturers Inc. elects chairman, other officers

Rick Armstrong of Homer Gregory in Morehead, Ky., was named the chairman of Appalachian Hardwood Manufacturers Inc. at its 2008 annual meeting.

He received the gavel from John Crites of Allegheny Wood Products in Petersburg, W.Va., at the trade group's Chairman's Banquet. Armstrong will lead the organization until 2010.

Other elected officers are Jimmy Powell, Canton Hardwoods, Canton, N.C., chairman-elect; Chris Keziah, Oak Ridge Hardwoods, Oak Ridge, Tenn., vice chairman of finance; and Crites, who is past chairman.

Elected to the Board of Trustees were:

  • Tim Borntraeger of Babcock Lumber, Pittsburgh; and Scott England of Gilbert Lumber, South Charleston, W.Va., first two-year terms.

  • Bill Campoll of Coastal Lumber, Weldon, N.C.; Kent Carr of Augusta Lumber, Staunton, Va.; Roy Cummings of Cummings Lumber, Troy, Penn.; and John Foley of Pine Mountain Lumber, Whitesburg, Ky., second two-year terms.

John R. Graybeal of McCloud Lumber, Hampton, Tenn.; Steve Hamer of Jim C. Hamer Co., Kenova, W.Va.; Mike Hoover of Neff Lumber Mills, Broadway, Va.; and Mark Vollinger of W.M. Cramer Lumber, Hickory, N.C., third two-year terms.

Associate member representatives are: Consumer, Chris Ghiloni of American Woodmark, Winchester, Va.; Distributor, David Kay of Forest Products Inc., Conover, N.C.; and Forestry, Doug Toothman of WPPLP, Huntington, W.Va.

AHMI honored retiring board members Ed Ramsey of Taylor-Ramsey Corp., Lynchburg, Va.; Steve Houseknecht of Wagner Lumber, Owega, N.Y.; and Jerry Vaughn of Emmet Vaughn Lumber, Knoxville, Tenn., for their service to the board.

AHMI was founded in 1928 and represents more than 200 lumber manufacturers, distributors, consumers, foresters and suppliers to the industry. Its mission is to promote the hardwood timber and products from the Appalachian region of the eastern United States.
