Nochman 'Nook’ Neff, veteran sales rep
ENCENITAS, Calif. — Nochman “Nook” Neff, a 50-year veteran sales representative, wholesale distributor and retailer, died here March 20. He was 77.
Over the years, he represented Bassett Furniture Inds., Bassett Table, Singer Furniture, Silver Tables, Twin Rivers and others.
He founded Philadelphia Furniture Distributors and Quaker City Forwarders as well as several stores.
Noted for his wit and unusual antics, he was equally respected for his perseverance in winning a long, hard-fought battle with a Teamsters union in the Philadelphia area some 35 years ago.
Survivors include a daughter, a son, a grandson and a brother, Jerome Neff, who retired after a long career in the industry.
Lydia Ella James, Expressions, Maison Blanche
NEW ORLEANS — Lydia Ella James, who had been involved in the home furnishings industry for over 60 years, died here on March 22. She was 84.
James was vice president of home furnishings retailers Maison Blanche and most recently Expressions Custom Furniture.
Funeral was held March 24 at the Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home Chapel in New Orleans. Services and interment also will be held in Perry, Fla., her birthplace.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Methodist Children’s Home, 1111 Herring Avenue, Waco, Texas.
Azel M. Dille, American Drew sales rep
CHESAPEAKE, Ohio — Azel M. Dille, a longtime sales representative, has died at age 89.
Dille spent nearly three decades as a sales rep with American-Drew, retiring about 13 years ago.
He also was a member of the International Home Furnishings Representatives Assn. and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
He is survived by three daughters, one son, a cousin, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Condolences may be given at www.schneidergriffin.com.
