KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia —
Attendance was down 15% at this year's Malaysian International Furniture Fair, due largely to a drop in domestic buyers.
Results released last week showed that the March 2-6 event attracted 20,179 visitors, down from the 23,804 last year.
Domestic attendance plunged nearly 30%, to 8,595 from 12,266 in 2009. The number of international visitors rose slightly to 6,823 from 6,809 last year.
The number of invited guests, or members of the public, who attended the show on the last day grew slightly to 4,761, up from 4,729.
Trade visitors from 137 countries attended the show this year. The largest contingent, or 19.7% of the total foreign attendance, were from in and around Southeast Asia, followed by Europe at 16.3%, the Far East at 11.5%, other Asian countries at 11.3%, Africa at 10.6%, the Australia region at 9.7% and North and South America at 8.3%.
The show featured 571 exhibitors in about 800,000 square feet spread out over three venues, the Putra World Trade Center, The Matrade Exhibition and Convention Center and the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center.
The next show is planned for March 1-5, 2011.
