ITMA jackets promote breast cancer detection
Previewing silent auction to take place at Showtime
Joan Gunin -- Furniture Today, April 8, 2008
AT THE MARKET — In an effort to raise awareness of earlier breast cancer detection, several showrooms here are featuring mannequins dressed in jackets made of fabrics donated by International Textile Market Assn. members.
The wearable jackets also will be displayed at the Showtime fabric show in High Point, June 1-4, and will be sold at a silent auction during the event. Proceeds will benefit Friends for an Earlier Breast Cancer Test, a Greensboro, N.C.-based nonprofit that supports research for early diagnostic testing for breast cancer.
Nine mannequins or dress forms are on display this week at:
-
Lee Inds., 108 S. Lindsay St.
-
La-Z-Boy, Furniture Plaza 103
-
Laneventure, International Home Furnishings Center, C-867
-
Pearson, IHFC, C-804
-
Vanguard, 301 N. Hamilton St.
-
200 Steele, in the lobby
-
Suites at Market Square entry, S. Elm Street at Commerce Avenue
Each mannequin includes a sign encouraging visitors to “Show Your True Colors” in support of early breast cancer detection, said Catherine Morsell, executive director of the ITMA.
The hand-crafted jackets are made of fabrics donated by Classical Elements, Costa Blanca, Craftex Mills, Glen Raven, Hamilton Fabrics, Sunbury Textile Mills, Textile Fabric Associates, Tietex and Valdese Weavers.
The jackets were designed and made by 3 Sisters Clothing, a Dallas specialty apparel manufacturer that uses home furnishings fabrics for its apparel fashions.
