Hammary recalls 7,000 tables

Products could contain too much lead

Tom Russell -- Furniture Today, April 8, 2010

WASHINGTON — Hammary Furniture is voluntarily recalling 7,000 decorative wood chests and occasional tables after it was learned the tables could contain excessive levels of lead.

The company, in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, announced the recall on Wednesday. No incidents or injuries were reported in relation to the recall.

However, Hammary and the agency said that consumers should stop using the recalled furniture and keep children away from the items.

The recall affects 19 products retailing from $200 to $900. These items were produced in China, Vietnam and the Philippines and sold at various retailers and department stores from November 2001 through November 2009.

Products made since April 2009 have a label that specifies the date the item was made, the item number, country of origin, product description and specifies Hammary as the vendor. Goods made before then do not have an identifying label, but consumers can see photos of the products at www.regcen.com/hammaryrecall.

For a list of all the products being recalled and their respective model numbers, visit
http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml10/10191.html.

Customers that want to receive a free replacement for the items should contact Hammary at (888) 577-4098. More information is available online at www.regcen.com/hammaryrecall.
