American Leather taps Archer for merchandising
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, April 6, 2008
Dallas — Amy Archer has joined custom upholstery specialist American Leather as director of merchandising, a new position.
In her 25 years in the industry, Archer has worked in manufacturing and retail, including sales and merchandising. She is known as a trend and consumer behavior expert.
Archer was with Rowe Furniture for 10 years in product design and as creative director for its Robin Bruce upholstery division. She also has worked for retailers Scandinavian Design, Domain and In Home Furnishings.
According to American Leather, the new position signals an increased focus on creating furniture lines that address today's changing marketplace. Her insight into consumer trends will play a large part in the direction of American Leather's future designs, which she playfully calls "sexed up contemporary."
She said she intends to put her ideas to work using innovative leg designs, thread details and other touches. "It's like putting a great piece of jewelry with a classic suit," she said.
"Amy brings a savvy, provocative perspective to retail merchandising that is unique in this industry," said Bruce Birnbach, president. "As a company, we are energized this year to significantly impact our presence among retailers and with consumers — and Amy will be instrumental in leading this charge."
