HIGH POINT —
Veteran furniture sales representative Ray Isser has been named winner of the prestigious Rudy Steltemeier Award from the International Home Furnishings Representatives Assn.
The award, which is the organization's highest honor, recognizes an IHFRA member who has demonstrated the qualities of outstanding service to fellow members as exemplified by Steltemeier, a rep for 66 years when he died in 1993 at age 92.
Isser, a 32-year member of IHFRA's Tri-State chapter in the Philadelphia area, was IHFRA president in 2006. Earlier, he was president of the Tri-State chapter from 1996 to 1998 and served as chairman of the board from 1998 to 2000.
He currently represents HomElegance, Gold Bond Mattress, Luke Leather, Sunset Trading and Masterguard UV3.
The organization said Isser has represented IHFRA at numerous industry gatherings, has been active in the group's lobbying efforts in Washington, and “has been an example to follow for the newer and younger representatives coming into the industry and the organization.”
IHFRA also announced that it will honor the Greater New York Home Furnishings Assn. as its Chapter of the Year. Officials said the New York chapter was chosen for the honor for the bold initiatives it has taken to reorganize its operations and reframe its mission to align itself with the current economic situation and changing nature of the furniture industry.
The awards will be presented Friday, April 16, at the IHFRA Presidential Gala and Awards Dinner in High Point. The event begins at 6 p.m. in the International Home Furnishings Center ballroom. For more information and to make reservations, contact the IHFRA office at (336) 889-3920 or by e-mail at ihfra@ihfra.org.
