Easy living

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, April 6, 2008

If the hustle and bustle of city life has worn you down, recharge your batteries in a more rural setting. Some groups this market draw on the time-worn pieces you might find in an old farmhouse, a mountain retreat or a summer cottage. Expect some distressing and rubbed-through painted finishes on case pieces.

  1. BUTLER SPECIALTY
    IHFC D-1031
These nesting tables are part of Butler Specialty's Artists' Originals collection. The $599 retail group of tables has a hand-painted rustic fawn finish.

  2. HARDEN FURNITURE
    200 Steele S-133
This sliding door curio by Harden has lights and glass shelves as well as rope-turned legs and a stretcher base. Made with solid cherry, it is shown here in an antique pearl finish.

  3. KINCAID FURNITURE
    IHFC H-1204
This dresser is part of Kincaid's American Journal line of about 37 bedroom and dining pieces and more than 200 SKUs. This piece looks like farmhouse in this finish, but can look more transitional with a different finish.

  4. OLD HICKORY TANNERY
    Market Square 314
A classic wing shape takes on a western feeling in this loveseat (No. 8010) dressed in acid-washed hair-on-hide leather with distressed wood finish. Bench made in the United States.

  5. TRADE MASTERS
    400 English, 1st floor
This No. 8040 bedroom suite from Trade Masters reflects an American heritage with its turned poster bed and picture-frame molding.

  6. PASTEL
    IHFC H-512
Pastel's Windsor collection combines a solid-walnut top with metal base in an autumn rust finish.

  7. C.R. LAINE
    IHFC H-1004
Playful nautical patterns highlight the cover of the Potomac chair, part of C.R. Laine's Cottage/Loft collection. It is targeted at $1,412 retail.

  8. UNIVERSAL
    2622 Uwharrie Road
This bed from the Bungalow collection, scaled for smaller living spaces, has a contemporary shutter look on the headboard and footboard.

  9. FRENCH HERITAGE
    1638 English Road
French Heritage goes contemporary with Paris Loft, a 30-piece collection crafted of reclaimed teak that's hand rubbed with natural pumice.

  10. HOOKER FURNITURE
    IHFC W-1047
Hooker's Urban Lodge represents a swing into a more contemporary transitional style. The clean- looking collection is designed to go in city lofts or rustic cabins and is highlighted by design touches such as a horizontal planked look.
