Royal treatment

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, April 6, 2008

Though it may change somewhat over time, the Old World charm of European and American classics never loses popularity. This market, a number of introductions are featuring updated versions of styles that have drifted down through the centuries, both in case goods and upholstery. A common denominator will be lots of carved wood, elegant fringes, turned legs and graceful, flowing lines — all designed to appeal to buyers with a strong appreciation for the beauty of the past.

  1. MICHAEL THOMAS
    1690 English Road
Michael Thomas' Throne Chair is covered with Wipelli's Golden Cheetah, and retails for $1,999.

  2. LA BARGE
    227 Russell Ave.
This accent table by La Barge combines a twisted black iron tripod base with brass accents and a mirror glass top.

  3. ISENHOWER FURNITURE
    422 N. Hamilton
Introductions include the No. 842-28-C chair in a Kravet animal skin, with exposed wood and nailhead trim, $3,799.

  4. HANCOCK & MOORE
    200 Steele 3rd floor
Blair, a sophisticated, leggy 19th-century accent chair, features nailhead accents, gimp and carved lace details.

  5. STANLEY COLLECTIONS
    IHFC C-1100
Open fretwork adorns several pieces in the new group from Stanley Collections. This Chippendale design technique can be seen here on the double-pedestal table and chair backs.

  6. P.A.M.A. FURNITURE
    Market Square 217
P.A.M.A. Furniture's introductions include this tall Chippendale chest with hideaway storage top and velvet lining. It retails for $2,400.

  7. BARCLAY BUTERA
    IHFC H-310
The Marseilles chair from Barclay Butera Home is an interpretation of a large-scale classic chaise from the early 1900s in Paris, and will retail for about $3,682.

  8. PAUL ROBERT
    401 English Road
The Julia settee emulates French neoclassic styling. Inspired by a Paul Robert family antique, the settee combines leathers, cotton jacquards, silks and decorative gimp with nailhead accents. Hand-rubbed wood finish. $3,199 retail.

  9. LEATHERCRAFT
    117 N. Hamilton St.
Shapely back legs give a modern twist to this classic leather wing chair (No. 1221-17). The chair features a tight radius back and brass nailhead trim. $2,275 retail.

  10. MAGNUSSEN HOME
    IHFC M-1010
This server is one of 15 new pieces developed after the Lakefield occasional table group performed well for Magnussen Home last year. The door design is inspired by Chippendale antiques. The group is made of birch solids and veneers with a merlot finish.

  11. HABERSHAM
    Market Square 142
Habersham is launching a new high-end upholstery collection, which includes this chair-and-a-half that combines pattern and leather in a Grand European casual style.
