High Point to host CA Boom East show
October event will have contemporary focus

HIGH POINT — CA Boom, the West Coast design show, said it plans to use the fall market here to launch a second show, CA Boom East, at the new Mills Village showroom complex here.
Mills Village, in south High Point off Elm Street, is owned by California manufacturer Cisco Bros., which also has its flagship East Coast showroom there. The high-end upholstery company hosted a party there Tuesday night to celebrate its opening.
Over the past five years, Southern California has been the home to the CA Boom Design Show. The West Coast event promotes contemporary and non-traditional design and architecture — spanning furnishings to surfaces and finishes to doors and windows to prefab — CA Boom East will focus on new, independent contemporary furnishing designers and manufacturers, organizers said.
“The High Point marketplace continues to have the track record of consistently attracting the world’s most important furniture buyers,” said Charles M. Trotter, the show’s manager. “We see High Point as the center and the future of where real furniture is made and sold, and we are very excited to be associated with such a prestigious event.”
“The CA Boom Design Show represents the next generation of contemporary designs and manufacturers and we are thrilled to have CA Boom East involved with High Point Market,” said Brian Casey, president and CEO of the High Point Market Authority. “CA Boom will be complementary to where High Point is already positioned with the high-end designer community.”
The newly opened Mills Village complex here, once considered an eyesore, has been renovated into what officials said is the most significant project to date in High Point and North Carolina that meets environmentally friendly standards under LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).
CA Boom East, coinciding with the Oct. 20-26 fall High Point Market, will be held on the second floor of the showroom building of Cisco Bros.
The 27-acre Mills Village complex includes several buildings with a total of 280,000 square feet. Buildings feature reclaimed partitions, ramps and staircases made 70% from metals and lumber reclaimed from the old structure and its surroundings.
“Having been an exhibitors at CA Boom, I saw firsthand how this show can benefit the design community on the West Coast,” said Cisco Pinedo, founder of Cisco Bros. “In addition, the Cisco brand complements CA Boom’s business values and we are excited to grow our relationship with the show on both coasts.”
