Sta-Kleen featured at Best Home, Franklin

HIGH POINT —
Sta-Kleen, a performance fabric that its backers say is the industry's first dry-erase urethane upholstery, is making its debut at market in two upholstery producers' showrooms.
Officials said Best Home Furnishings and Franklin will display the faux leather fabric on lift chairs and selected motion furniture pieces, and will be demonstrating the ability to remove most stains with a clean, dry cloth. Sta-Kleen also is being tested on dining chairs in the Container Marketing Inc. (CMI) showroom.
“We're really excited about it,” said Chuck Tidwell, vice president of merchandising and product development at Franklin. “It's very durable ...and it could potentially be used on a lot of our products.”
Sta-Kleen is resistant to virtually all types of stains, including those left by ballpoint pens, permanent markers, yellow mustard and even topical antiseptics, said John Kessler, national sales manager of The Mitchell Group, a Niles, Ill.-based converter that is marketing the product.
Most stains can be wiped away with a clean, dry cloth. But if a so-called “ghost stain” remains, it can be easily removed with household rubbing alcohol, Kessler said.
“It doesn't change the characteristic of the product at all,” he said. “It doesn't compromise the color or the pattern, and the hand remains soft.”
Kessler said the Sta-Kleen protectant is cross-linked to the layers of urethane fabric with a proprietary bonding process.
The product is anti-microbial and anti-bacterial, and uses a PVC-free urethane formulation, which is better for the environment, he said.
