HIGH POINT —
NCFI Polyurethanes, a division of Barnhardt Mfg. that produces cushioning products, has added a new product to its line of Bio-Lux cushioning line that has more renewable content.
Lee Inds. will introduce upholstered furniture using the new foam product at this week's High Point Market.
With Bio-Lux Max, 50% of the foam's petroleum-based polyol is replaced with material made with renewable resources, said Chris Bradley, NCFI's director of sales for consumer products. Foams made with Bio-Lux Max will contain as much as 33% renewable content overall and up to four times more renewable raw materials than other products on the market, the company said.
“We fully expect to be at a 75% replacement level by the end of this year, which will bring us beyond the 50% overall content level,” Bradley said.
Cargill's BiOH product line is the source of the soy-based polyol used in the new foam.
NCFI and Lee Inds. are partnering to introduce Bio-Lux Max in High Point, where the market opens on April 17. The foam product will be featured in Lee's upholstered leather furniture collection.
“Lee Inds. is taking another step in becoming the leader in sustainable home furnishings,” said Norman Coley, president of Lee. “We always embrace new ideas and products.”
