EcoSleep adds Cool-Contour Deluxe bedding

By David Perry -- Furniture Today, April 17, 2010

The name — EcoSleep — tells you what this product line offers: Eco-friendly bedding.

EcoSleep is on display here in the International Home Furnishings Center, M-610. It's another bedding line to spring from the fertile mind of Dave Young, an industry veteran and self-described “serial entrepreneur,” whose VyMaC Corp. operates Verlo Mattress stores.

EcoSleep is produced by Durable Products Co., founded by Young in 2002. Durable Products offers a line of visco, latex, air and innerspring mattresses for OEM and private-label distribution and also develops and markets its own brands, including the EcoSleep mattress line and Everloft pillows.

The newest offering from EcoSleep is the Cool-Contour Deluxe, which features a cover fashioned from Tencel, a cellulose fiber that uses nanotechnology to optimize moisture absorption. Produced from the pulp of eucalyptus trees that are certified sustainable by the Forest Stewardship Council, Tencel absorbs up to 70% more moisture than standard cotton covers, the company said.

The bed also uses two castor oil-based foam layers, Cool-Contour memory foam and Acella-Flex support foam.

“All of our EcoSleep products are pushing the envelope in terms of providing consumers with a healthier, more sustainable, highly comfortable, and now more cooling sleep than ever before,” said Mike Schweiger, vice president of sales for Durable Products. “Comfort is a necessity when it comes to your mattress, and we aim to prove that you can get maximum comfort in a mattress produced with the lowest overall impact on the environment.”

The Cool-Contour memory foam is made of odor-free castor oil and recycled foam polymers. That formula produces a lower carbon footprint than soy-based foam, company officials said.

The Acella-Flex foam has thicker cell walls than conventional foams for additional resilience, the company said. The open cell structure of the foams in the bed allows for air flow for increased comfort and breathability. Activated carbon within the Acella-Flex foam adds to the hygiene of the mattress, officials said.

The Cool-Contour Deluxe joins the family of EcoSleep mattresses, made with sustainable, recycled and environmentally friendly raw materials. The line retails from $799 to $1,499.
