West Bros. achieves Silver status with SFC
Becomes fifth company to reach sustainability level

HANOVER, Ontario — Solid wood case goods manufacturer West Bros. Furniture has achieved Silver Exemplary Status from the Sustainable Furniture Council.
West Bros. is the first Canadian furniture maker to reach the status. It also was the only Canadian founding member of the SFC.
There are three levels exemplary corporate membership: silver, gold and platinum. Four other companies also have achieve silver status — Harden Furniture, South Cone, Zola and Grant Dawson.
Silver status companies meet criteria including:
* Forest Stewardship Council-certified or equivalent certification for 15% to 25% of wood products.
* 1% to 25% of non-wood products made from recycled or bio-based materials.
* Completion of a Carbon Footprint Report, with a detailed analysis of energy output in operations.
* Showing a positive impact on supply chain improvements as a result of efforts.
West Bros. also showed that it has created policies and programs involving living wage commitments to employees, supplier code of conduct requirements and energy reductions in manufacturing.
The company also showed it is reducing transportation-packaging waste, providing educational training on climate change with their community and is involved with product reclamation and recycling initiatives.
“We are inspired to pursue the task of producing a superior, domestically produced, high end product that has the smallest possible impact on our environment,” said Steve Maynard, sales and marketing coordinator, in a released statement.
