Crate & Barrel expanding
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, April 20, 2008
Tracy, Calif. — Crate & Barrel will build two large distribution centers here, including an 827,000-square-foot facility for furniture inventory.
According to a news release from developer ProLogis of Denver, the buildings will be built to guidelines by the U.S. Green Building Council for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (or LEED) certification. LEED is the national standard for environmentally responsible construction.
Both buildings, which will support the retailer's West Coast stores, will incorporate sustainable design and construction techniques including the use of recycled and locally sourced construction materials and an energy-efficient lighting system.
The buildings will be part of 160-acre ProLogis distribution park sites in Tracy, about 54 miles east of Oakland, Calif., with access to Interstates 5, 580 and 205 and Union Pacific rail lines.
Crate & Barrel's second facility here will be a 398,000-square-foot distribution center that the Top 100 company will use for housewares.
