MacIntosh named marketing VP at Stein World

Unilver veteran joins company in operations role

Thomas Russell -- Furniture Today, April 29, 2008

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Accent and occasional furniture specialist Stein World has named David MacIntosh to the newly created position of vice president of marketing and hired Bob Kelley as vice president of operations.

MacIntosh had been chief operating officer since January 2005. His duties, including overseeing operations including customer service, shipping and logistics, will now be handled by Kelley.

Kelley comes to the company from the Slim Fast division of Unilever, where he worked for the past 17 years in logistics, transportation, distribution and warehouse management.

Both report to company President and CEO Richard Olmeda, who joined Stein World as president in the fall of 2006. He assumed the additional role of CEO last October, replacing Andy Stein, who has since retired.

MacIntosh will handle marketing activities, which include ad and catalog development, sales associate training programs and Web site development and maintenance.

“I consider this position a critical component of our ongoing strategic growth plan,” Olmeda said in a memo to employees. “David MacIntosh’s many years of experience, his thorough understanding of all segments of the furniture industry, and his ultimate knowledge of our particular business will prove vital to achieving our corporate objectives.”

Olmeda also promoted former vice president of inventory, procurement and inventory management James Franks to vice president of merchandise and product development, a new position. Olmeda had been handling those responsibilities since Stein’s departure.
