Home Meridian relocating staff to High Point
By Jeff Linville -- Furniture Today, April 27, 2008
High Point — Home Meridian International has announced it will relocate some jobs from its Pulaski, Va., and Phoenix locations to its corporate headquarters here on Premiere Drive.
In January, HMI opened the 20,000-square-foot office as the home base for all four of its divisions — SLF, Pulaski, infant and juvenile furniture producer Creations, and contract division SLH (Samuel Lawrence Hospitality).
"We're continuously working to improve our operations, which include reducing costs and increasing efficiency," said George Revington, Home Meridian president and CEO. "By consolidating these operations — finance, supply chain and customer service — from Phoenix and Pulaski into High Point, we will eliminate the redundancies that remain from having multiple operating locations."
When the transition is complete, Lamont Hope, Pulaski vice president of operations, will have responsibility for all U.S. operations from the High Point office. While customer service will be based here, Pulaski and SLF will maintain their separate service teams.
Some employees have accepted the opportunity to move to High Point, but Revington said he expects to have to hire about 40 new people to replace those who don't relocate. Interested applicants may send resumes to jobs@homemeridian.com.
The relocated jobs will not affect HMI's warehouse and shipping operations. SLF has a distribution center in Phoenix and Pulaski has one in Madison, N.C. Pulaski also ships occasional goods through its Pulaski, Va., facility.
In addition, HMI said it has opened offices in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, further expanding its global footprint.
"We have moved a significant portion of our production to Vietnam," said Revington. "With our experienced team in place in Ho Chi Minh City, we can better serve our customers by increasing efficiency and reducing costs."
Home Meridian also has Asian offices in Dongguan, China. Dwayne Wood, vice president of Asian operations, said his team is responsible for the sourcing, product development, quality control and supply chain management for each of Home Meridian's marketing units.
