Hamilton Spill hosts 85 retailers in new Dongguan showroom

Dongguan, China — Hamilton Spill Furniture Group used its new showroom here to launch a line of case goods, occasional and upholstery in March.
The 35,000-square-foot showroom has been open to buyers since September, but this was the company's first official show.
The March 8–23 event attracted 85 retailers from around the world, about 20 of whom were from North America, said Chairman and CEO Mick Verjee.
Other buyers came from places like India, Korea, Australia and the Middle East.
The new products included 12 occasional groups, eight of which are tied in with casual dining groups. Hamilton Spill also showed six new casual dining groups and 12 mostly fabric upholstery groups.
Most of the product is designed for the North and South American markets. But some items, such as upholstery, can be scaled for smaller living spaces, said Gary Harmon, vice president of soft goods. International buyers also liked options such as storage seating on sectionals and backs that can flip down for use as a bed.
The showroom illustrates Hamilton Spill's growing presence in Asia. Based in Hong Kong, the company sources from a dozen Chinese factories and has offices and a product testing lab in Dongguan.
The company also has showrooms in High Point and Las Vegas.
The Dongguan showroom is meant to accommodate retailers visiting China to buy container direct. Many who visited the showroom were already in town for the March 16-20 International Famous Furniture Fair.
"They are all coming here to shop and buy," Verjee said. "Everybody in the world is taking their furniture production to Asia, so where else should we be?"
The showroom is open by appointment throughout the year. Verjee estimated that it will attract 750 to 1,000 dealers in a year's time.
