Lawrence J. Sindoni, rug industry veteran

Fort Lee, N.J. — Lawrence "Larry" J. Sindoni, a floor covering industry veteran who retired as a territory sales manager with rug supplier Couristan three years ago, has died. He was 73.

An Army veteran, Sindoni began his career with Jordan Marsh and built the department store's area rug assortment as the senior buyer in the category. After 19 years with the retailer, Sindoni joined Couristan in 1980. For more than two decades, he managed the company's area rug and residential broadloom distribution throughout the northern New England region.

"Larry was with Couristan during a period of significant growth and change and he will always be remembered for his tremendous contributions during that important time. He was sincerely appreciated for his dedication to our company, his passionate leadership qualities and his truly generous spirit," said Ron Couri, president and CEO of Couristan. "I speak on behalf of the entire Couristan team in saying that he will be deeply missed."

Sindoni is survived by his wife, two children and nine grandchildren.

Donations may be made in his memory to Make-A-Wish Foundation, 1 Bullfinch Pl., Suite 2, Boston, Mass. 02114.

George McFadden, industry investor

Hemphill, Texas — Industry investor George McFadden was among the passengers that authorities identified as having died in a plane crash that occurred April 22 near this east Texas community.

McFadden was traveling with Daniel McIntire of Humble, Texas, and Heather Hardin of Pecan Island, La. Their plane, a fixed-wing, single-engine 2006 Cirrus SR22, crashed into a local reservoir.

Witnesses told KSLA-TV of Shreveport, La., that they saw the plane sputtering before it disappeared through a section of clouds. It then broke through the clouds and nosedived into the Toledo Bend Reservoir, the station reported.

The station also reported that the three were business partners with Crescent Directional Drilling out of Houston. They were en route from Tupelo, Miss., to David Wayne Hooks Airport in the Houston area. McIntire, who was the company's CFO, was piloting the plane, the station reported.

McFadden was the principal owner in the business. His company, McFadden Brothers, also owned the former upholstery manufacturer Kensington Furniture. McFadden also was an owner of upholstery manufacturer Caraway Furniture.

The remains of McFadden and the other two victims were taken to Starr Funeral Home in Hemphill.
