Trucking cos. merge, form World Wide Logistics
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, April 27, 2008
Valdese, N.C. — Six well-known specialized furniture carriers have merged, forming a new organization called World Wide Logistics that will serve all 50 states and Canada.
The merger brings together Four Truckers of Morganton, N.C.; Furniture Transportation Systems of Pomona, Calif.; Milwaukee Delivery Service of Jefferson, Wis.; Palmer Transport of Ontario, Calif.; Rudisill Transportation of Hickory, N.C.; and Warren Trucking of Martinsville, Va.
World Wide Logistics will have its corporate offices in Valdese, but will maintain the nine warehouses and distribution centers that were operated by the six carriers before the merger.
The new company will have annual revenues of about $100 million.
"This world-class organization takes the specialized transportation services for the home furnishings industry to a new level," said Dan Hunt, CEO of the new company.
"The structure of WWL maintains the existence of the underlying subsidiary companies," he added. "This ensures that our customers will continue to enjoy the same personal relationships that they have had in the past with each of the WWL companies."
Hunt had been executive vice president of Warren Trucking, whose president, Richard Eanes, is chairman of the new organization.
Eric Clarke, who had been president of Four Truckers, is president of World Wide Logistics, and John Naughton, vice president of Furniture Transportation Systems, is the new company's executive vice president.
Other key executives include Milwaukee Delivery President T.J. Alfuth, who is vice president of operations; Four Truckers executive Carl Abernathy, vice president of marketing; Palmer Transport executive Rowland Branham, vice president of sales; and Four Truckers executives Gary Greene and Jim Wetmore, who are vice president of maintenance and equipment and vice president of administration, respectively.
All nine senior executives are stockholders in World Wide Logistics, as are Palmer Transport CEO Don Palmer, Rudisill Transportation President Jerry Rudisill and Furniture Transportation Systems President Dennis Firestone.
Palmer, Rudisill and Firestone are members of the new company's board of directors and will handle a variety of sales and marketing tasks, but will not be involved in day-to-day operations.
Hunt said World Wide Logistics is the only specialized furniture carrier that can provide less-than-truckload (LTL) service anywhere in the United States. Plus, the company's exclusive partnership with Western Logistics, a Canadian specialized furniture carrier, enables it to serve all of Canada as well.
Additional logistics services include direct containers, de-vanning, split container distribution and regional warehousing for local and home delivery.
The new company also will operate a Web site that will provide real-time information to customers.
