Restwell, Sommex name Rob Vickers VP of sales

Vickers will lead the sales efforts of these two matress producers

TORONTO — Industry veteran Rob Vickers will lead the sales efforts for Restwell Sleep Products and Sommex Bedding under the terms of new strategic alliance between the two mattress producers.

Sommex Bedding Corp. is the new parent company of the Toronto-based Rev Sleep — the producers of the Sommex, Natura World, NexGel and ObusForme brands — which it acquired in September. The deal also returned ownership of the company to industry veteran Normand Ricard.

Based in the Vancouver suburb of Surrey, British Columbia, Restwell is the sole remaining Spring Air licensee in Canada. Founded in 1990, the family-owned and operated manufacturer also produces innerspring and foam mattresses under its own name for the residential and hospitality markets.

Under the agreement, the two companies will operate a single sales and marketing team to service retail customers across the country.

In his new position as vice president of sales, Vickers will support both companies in attracting, retaining and growing business.

In a statement, Rev Sleep said Vickers has 20 years of industry experience, most recently as vice president of sales for Simmons Canada. Prior to that he held a number of senior management roles with Western Sleep Products, the Vancouver-based Serta licensee.

“I am looking forward to working with our national sales and marketing teams in developing our business,” Vickers said. “Our compelling brands, outstanding service and innovative products are an exciting opportunity for us and our loyal customers.”

Troy Zanatta, president and CEO of Restwell Sleep Products, said the new alliance will deliver greater growth potential to both companies.

“I have worked with Normand Ricard and his team for many years. My father and M. Ricard began the relationship 20 years ago, and this refinement of our partnership and relationship will afford the Canadian mattress marketplace an exciting and new alternative to compelling product, coast to coast,” he said.

Sommex CEO Chris French said he was excited about the opportunity.

“Working together with Restwell will be synergistic to our company, Restwell, and the market,” French said.
