Western Connecticut State recognizes his humanitarian efforts

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, May 20, 2008

DANBURY, Conn. — Western Connecticut State University has awarded Farooq Kathwari, chairman and CEO of Ethan Allen Interiors, an honorary doctorate degree in humanities in recognition of his many humanitarian endeavors to bring peace in areas of conflict.

“Farooq Kathwari is one of America's most successful, thoughtful business leaders,” said James Schmotter, WCSU’s president. “His compelling observations on the nature of globalization and its impact on businesses, society and individual lives and careers have received acclaim in the U.S. and abroad.”

Kathwari presented the university’s commencement address this month to 900 WCSU graduates and their family members and guests. The theme of his talk was “Entering a Globalized World: Challenges and Opportunities.”
