Global Link expands express service from China

Atlanta — Logistics services provider Global Link Logistics is expanding its Furniture Less than Container Express service to Shanghai, China.

Global Link has established a 30,000-square-foot consolidation warehouse in the Shanghai area to house and ship products from the region's furniture manufacturers.

It is similar to consolidation facilities in Yantian in southern China and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. Like those facilities, the new space is near port facilities.

The Flex program helps wholesalers and retailers consolidate or mix container shipments from several Asian factories.

"The objective is to bring in product from one or more factories in the Shanghai area," said Ed Feitzinger, executive vice president of Global Link Logistics. "It is similar to an LTL cross dock (facility) with trucks coming in and containers going out."

Meanwhile, Global Link also has chosen Management Dynamics Transportation Management software to provide customers with more flexible and competitive routing options.

According to Global Link, the Web-based software allows the company to boost productivity and customer service through a search engine that evaluates various rate and routing options. The search engine has helped Global reduce the time it spends routing shipments by 20% and audit freight bills 30% faster, which helps eliminate carrier overcharges and avoid misquotes.
