NORTON, Mass. — Top 100 company Bernie & Phyl’s Furniture is the 2008 winner of the Massachusetts Family Business Award for businesses with more than 250 employees.
The Family Business Awards recognizes top family-owned companies in the state for excellence in business, innovation and contributions to the community. The awards program was developed by Northeastern University’s Center for Family Business; the Family Firm Institute, New England Chapter; and family businesses across the state.
“It is an honor to receive this important award,” said Bernie Rubin, Bernie & Phyl’s chairman and co-founder. “Even as we have grown, our focus has been on retaining that strong sense of family and commitment to family values that has been the hallmark of our company over the years.”
Bernie & Phyl’s five midpriced, Boston-area stores generated an estimated $106.2 million in furniture, bedding and accessories sales last year. It was honored in 2002 as the National Home Furnishings Assn.’s Retailer of the Year for stores with sales of more than $10 million.
