By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, May 18, 2008
High Point — Annette Lane, president of the Carolinas Chapter of the International Furnishings & Design Assn., presented donations totaling $22,000 to several educational programs at a dinner event here during the spring High Point Market.
The funds were raised at the group's latest Benefit Furniture & Accessory Sale.
High Point University's Home Furnishings Program was the biggest beneficiary at $10,000, presented to program director Richard Bennington for his department. Lane also presented $2,000 each to Jeanne Mercer-Ballard of Appalachian State University, Katherine Warsco of East Carolina University and Patrick Lee Lucas of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
The chapter also gave $5,000 to the IFDA Educational Foundation for the Ruth Clark Scholarship focusing on furniture design, and honored member Wilma Hammett with a $1,000 donation in her name to the foundation. Hammett is a former foundation chair who spearheaded the IFDA/EF leadership training seminars and a new EF financial resource initiative, March to a Million.
In the past 12 years, the Carolinas Chapter has donated more than $200,000 to education.
