Furniture part of new Sami Hayek line at Target

MINNEAPOLIS — Target has launched a Sami Hayek for Target collection of contemporary furniture, bedding decorative accessories and stationery aimed at college students.
The Sami Hayek Studio design practice was established in 2003 and is know for blending styles, materials and scale, according to Target. It is strongly influenced by Hayek’s native Mexican culture.
The furniture portion of the lines includes a $149.99 desk, desk chair, file cabinet and bookshelf. The line’s products are geared to serve multiple purposes, “with minimal packaging that is designed to be reused or recycled, making the items both stylish and practical,” Target said in a release.
The collection is arriving this month, in time for “back to college,” and provides “vibrant decor and furnishing options that add a hint of surprise,” said Gina Sprenger, senior vice president of merchandising for Target.
“Anyone who values function and practicality housed in great design will gravitate toward Hayek’s product,” she said.
Hayek said his Target collection reflects his “core design beliefs, which include structure, humor and a commitment to sustainable design.”
