Theodore Alexander expanding Vietnam plant

By Thomas Russell -- Furniture Today, June 15, 2008

Case goods and upholstery manufacturer Theodore Alexander is undertaking a 215,000-square-foot expansion of its plant here.

The project will boost the plant's on-site production capacity by 50%. In addition to expanding the operation's wood finishing and upholstery departments, it will create added space for warehousing and will also consolidate administrative functions under one roof.

The expansion is expected to be completed next March.

The June 9 groundbreaking was preceded by a traditional Vietnamese Buddhist blessing called Le Dong Tho to ensure the future prosperity of the building, which is in this city's Linh Trung Export Zone. Senior management, including company CEO Harvey Dondero and President Antony Maitland-Smith, then led the official ceremony.

With more than 1.5 million square feet of manufacturing space and some 7,000 employees, Theodore Alexander is one of the largest high-end producers of furniture in Southeast Asia.
