CHARLOTTE, N.C. — John Allen Kimbrell, retired president of Top 100 store Kimbrell's Furniture here, has died. He was 92.
Kimbrell worked for decades at the retailer, which was founded by his father, the late William Earl Kimbrell. John Allen Kimbrell retired as president in 1988 but continued to serve on the company's board until his death.
His tenure at Kimbrell's was interrupted only by his military service during World War II, when he was adjutant of the 630th Tank Destroyer Battalion.
He is survived by a son, a daughter, two granddaughters and one grandson.
