HIGH POINT — Tom Mitchell has been named president and CEO of the International Home Furnishings Center here, moving to the Big Building from his post as senior vice president and general manager of Merchandise Mart Properties Inc. in High Point.
MMPI has promoted Tim McGee, who has been vice president of leasing in High Point, to fill the Mitchell's position.
Mitchell will start at the IHFC on July 14. He replaces Tom Lindh, who resigned in May. Retired IHFC executive Bruce Miller has been serving as CEO on an interim basis.
“It is with great pleasure that IHFC welcomes an individual of such great character and integrity into our company,” the showroom building's board said in a statement. The board called Mitchell “a seasoned professional in the home furnishings showroom business.”
Mitchell has led the MMPI operations in High Point for 10 years and previously ran the Atlanta Mart, where he spent 17 years.
McGee first joined MMPI as director of leasing in 2000, then left in 2004 to become vice president of leasing for Showplace, another High Point showroom building. He returned to MMPI in October as vice president of leasing.
Earlier, he worked for Atlanta showroom operators and has more than 15 years of industry experience.
“He has forged many relationships with key stakeholders in all aspects of the industry and is well respected. He will continue to be a great asset to our team and our customers in his new role,” said Chris Kennedy, president of MMPI.
McGee will oversee High Point properties including Market Square, the Suites at Market Square, Plaza Suites, Furniture Plaza and the National Furniture Mart. Reporting to McGee will be Karen Olson, vice president of marketing; Steve Johnson, vice president of administration; Mike Snider, vice president of operations; and 25 other employees.
“With Tim McGee at MMPI in High Point, Tom Mitchell at IHFC and Marion Kelly and Joanna Easter at Showplace, the leadership in High Point has never been stronger,” said Kennedy.
