Larry Thomas -- Furniture Today, July 11, 2008
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Mattress and pillow manufacturer Tempur-Pedic has named Mark Sarvary, a veteran executive with several consumer products companies, as its president and CEO.
Sarvary, who will assume the post Aug. 4, is replacing the retiring Thomas Bryant.
Sarvary is an industrial partner with the private equity firm CVC Capital Partners. From 2004 to 2007, he was president of the North America division of Campbell Soup Co.
Earlier, he was president of apparel manufacturer J. Crew Group from 1999 to 2002, and spent several years with Nestle, including a stint as president of the company's Stouffer's Frozen Food unit.
“Mark Sarvary is exceptionally well qualified for the CEO role and has the ability and experience to lead Tempur-Pedic beyond the $1 billion sales level into its next phase of growth and development,” said Tempur-Pedic Chairman P. Andrews McLane. “He also understands the value of brands, the need to exceed customer and consumer expectations, and the importance of employee engagement to achieve superior business performance.”
Bryant, 60, joined the company in July 2001 and was named president in December 2004. He became CEO in April 2006.
Bryant will remain on Tempur-Pedic's board of directors until his term expires at the 2009 annual shareholders meeting.
