Furniture First adds eight members

Buying group now has 168 stockholders

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, July 8, 2008

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Furniture First buying group has added eight members, giving it a total of 168 retailer stockholders.

The new members are Richard Andrews, Andrews Furniture, Abilene, Texas; Ron Cardi, Cardi’s Furniture, Swansea, Mass.; Jerold Gunsolley, Everett’s Furniture, South Sioux City, Neb.; Thomas Urmston, Furniture Options, Goshen, N.Y.; Barbara Rice, Rice Furniture, Saranac Lake, N.Y.; David Todd, Todd’s Furniture, Madisonville, Ky.; Michael Trivett, Trivett’s Furniture, Fredericksburg, Va.; and Shawn Graham, Tuffy Bear Discount Furniture, Glenburn, Maine.

“This upswing in membership is a real testament to how Furniture First brings added value to an independent retailer,” said Tom Unger, the group’s director of membership. “Furniture First has a staff that truly understands the retail furniture industry and what the most challenging aspects are and how to help independents become more profitable.”

The group, founded by President Bill Hartman 14 years ago, now has member-owned retailers with 348 stores in 44 states with a combined $1.5 billion in annual buying power.
