Stylution Group expands case goods production

By Thomas Russell -- Furniture Today, July 13, 2008

The Stylution Group has ramped up its case goods factory here to boost production capacity by nearly two-thirds in a year.

Earlier this year, the company added $1 million in new equipment to the plant, which produces bedroom, dining room and occasional for China and export markets including the United States, the United Kingdom and Japan.

Driving the expansion is formation of the company's newest division, Stylution Direct. Created late last year, the division devoted to the U.S. export business is expected to take up half the company's production capacity, which is expected to rise to 250 containers per month in a year, up from about 150 currently.

The company continues to sell to China and other export markets, using the other 50% of production capacity.

As it builds capacity, the 500,000-square-foot factory will produce mostly transitional bedroom, casual dining and occasional made with birch, ash and poplar solids and ash, cherry and walnut veneers. Typical five-piece bedrooms — bed, dresser, mirror and two nightstands — will retail from $1,599 to $1,699.

The plant will produce standalone sets, but a big push is to sell whole-home collections.

“Lots of customers want to buy bedroom, dining room and occasional tables in one group,” said Alex Chen, vice president. “We can give them this type of service.”

The company provides full and mixed containers of product to accommodate large and small retailers. These also can be shipped with mattresses sold under the Stylution USA brand and produced in the company's adjacent 500,000-square-foot mattress plant.

On-site warehousing, which will expand from a 60-container capacity to 100 containers on the wood side by year's end, is helping the company meet its goal of shipping goods in 30 days from the time of order.

“We are on fire and really excited about it,” said Stylution Direct President Jay Jewett, adding that the company received strong reaction to new bedrooms shown at the High Point Market in April. “The follow-up and reaction we are getting is phenomenal. The factory is doing everything we said it would do.”

The company will show at the July Las Vegas Market in the World Market Center, B-1265. It will have three new occasional groups, six new casual dining groups and eight new bedrooms.
