Several wood resources marking major anniversaries this market

Several case goods companies are marking major anniversaries this year and will celebrate with parties and specials at the market.
Kincaid Furniture turns 60 this year and will offer a short bedroom group commemorating the event. At premarket, the company said it hadn't finalized the group yet, but expected it will feature solid walnut.
At Magnussen Home, "all year long we are celebrating doing business for 75 years," said Jeff Cook, president and CEO. "So our theme this market is the Big Birthday Bash. In addition to planning traditionally themed activities to celebrate our 75th year, the band will play music back to the thirties. We'll have cake and ice cream sundaes by Cold Stone Creamery and other birthday-related candy and food. For lunch, we're serving meals that are favorites of the Magnussen family.
"Our retailers really do enjoy the 'showtime' attitude that we put into the market.... We have planned another over-the-top event for our showroom this market," Cook said.
One attraction will be a 12-foot-square sand sculpture of a family watching TV to emphasize Magnussen's big home entertainment launch.
"It will take a team from California one week to carve it in time for marketgoers," Cook said. "We're also introducing a new café and coffee bar, called The Oasis, as a place for retailers to gather and just hang out."
Ferguson Copeland has two anniversaries. The company itself turns 10 this fall; also, Guy Chaddock, which Ferguson Copeland bought, began 50 years ago.
Lorts Fine Furniture will celebrate its 40th anniversary this year with an expanded showroom and an elegant party. Its space in the International Home Furnishings Center, H-1104, has nearly doubled from 6,000 to about 11,000 square feet. The company will display some scaled-down pieces to accommodate smaller homes, at the request of several customers.
For the anniversary, Lorts will hold a party from 6 to 8 p.m. on the Saturday of market, April 29. A variety of wines will be offered at four stations, along with food that suits the vintage and live music.
Henkel-Harris also is celebrating an anniversary this year, its 60th. To mark the occasion, the company is introducing a special 60th anniversary highboy here.
