O’Neills return to Leggett & Platt

Hold key posts in top-of-bed division

Larry Thomas -- Furniture Today, July 17, 2008

CARTHAGE, Mo. — Industry veterans Bob and Rob O’Neill have rejoined Leggett & Platt’s top-of-bed division in key sales and merchandising posts.

Bob O’Neill has been named senior vice president of sales while his son, Rob, is vice president of product development and merchandising.

Both are new positions for the division, which produces mattress protectors, sheets, pillows, and fashion ensembles. Richard Downing, formerly president of the division, has been named senior vice president of sales for Leggett’s consumer products group, which includes the top-of-bed, bedding support and ornamental bed divisions.

The O’Neills left the top-of-bed division in 2006, two years after they sold the business, then known as Southern Textiles, to Leggett.

Since leaving Leggett, the two held sales posts with importer Acme Furniture and most recently worked for American Dream Rooms, the U.S. marketing arm of Shanghai-based case goods producer Dream Rooms.

The O’Neills will be based at the Southern Textiles factory in Forsyth, Ga. They report to Rob Woods, president of the consumer products group.
