Art Van collects more than 13,000 pounds of food for needy families.

WARREN, Mich. — Art Van Furniture, partnering with a Detroit-area television station, collected 13,268 pounds of food as part of its 5th annual Art Van Furniture and WXYZ-TV Together We Can community food drive.
The drive benefits Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan, and the canned food and nonperishable items collected at the Top 100 company's stores in metro Detroit, Ann Arbor, Port Huron and Howell. Mich., will provide 11,012 meals for local families in need, according to a release.
"We are so grateful to our guests and our employees who come together every year during this important endeavor to assist thousands of families in need throughout our community," Art Van President Gary Van Elslander said in a statement.
He added that knowing the partnership with WXYZ and Gleaners helps make the holidays brighter for parents and children "exemplifies the true meaning of the season."
All donations collected will be distributed to soup kitchens, shelters and pantries in rural, suburban and urban communities in five area counties.
