Glen Raven wins environmental recognition

South Carolina honors plant’s leadership

Gary Evans -- Furniture Today, August 12, 2008

ANDERSON, S.C. — Glen Raven Custom Fabrics, a manufacturer of performance fabrics including the Sunbrella brand, has been named a member of the South Carolina Environmental Excellence Program, a voluntary initiative that recognizes facilities exercising environmental leadership in the state.

Company officials said Glen Raven’s recycling program prevents more than 400 tons of materials such as packaging and paper from going into landfills annually, while also reclaiming 500 tons of raw material waste and other product applications.

The plant is one of only 31 facilities in the state to have received the award.

“Glen Raven’s Anderson facility has shown a commitment to environmental excellence by fostering continual improvements,” said Bob King, South Carolina deputy commissioner for environmental quality control.

Glen Raven's Anderson manufacturing facility is a one-million-square-foot, vertically integrated plant that manufactures Sunbrella performance fabrics for awnings, marine and furniture applications.

“Throughout our history, Glen Raven has been committed to environmental excellence. As we advance best practices in all areas of our operations each year, we also use state-of-the-art approaches to enhance our environmental performance,” said Jack Woodson, director of operations for the Anderson facility.
