ARCHDALE, N.C. β Sealy announced last week that it will close its Clarion, Pa., bedding plant in October. Sealy has operated the facility since 1981.
βIn light of current economic conditions and continued softness in the retail mattress environment, we determined that closing this plant is the best decision for the company,β said Larry Rogers, Sealy CEO.
Production will shift to other plants in the region.
Operations at Clarion will end Oct. 17. The closing will affect 98 production and 16 office and supervisory personnel. In addition to the existing severance programs, Sealy will make counseling services available.
In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the company said it expects to take pretax restructuring and asset impairment charges of $2.4 million to $3.6 million in connection with the move.
