Culp acquires Bodet & Horst USA
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, August 17, 2008
HIGH POINT — Culp has acquired the knitted mattress fabric operation of Bodet & Horst USA, its primary source of such fabric for the past six years.
Culp said its mattress fabrics division, Culp Home Fashions, will run the operation. The company said had acquired Bodet & Horst's equipment, inventory and certain intellectual property.
Culp said it will manage the High Point manufacturing operation without interruption or changes in day-to-day plant operations.
Details of the purchase were not reported.
Culp President and CEO Frank Saxon said the deal “will further enhance Culp's service platform for our customers. Demand for this product line has grown significantly as knits are increasingly being utilized on mattresses at volume retail price points.”
Mattress fabrics accounted for 54% of Culp's sales in its fiscal fourth quarter, ended in April.
The company also said it recently completed a $5 million capital project to strengthen its woven mattress fabric manufacturing capabilities and add capacity.
Iv Culp, president of Culp Home Fashions, said the company will continue to collaborate with B&H on manufacturing projects and in supplying each other with products worldwide. Culp will also be the primary agent for B&H to distribute sewn covers and fire protectors to the North American mattress trade.
“We now have the unique ability to leverage the strengths of both companies and pursue additional growth opportunities in the global mattress fabrics business,” he said.
