Select Comfort remains at top

HIGH POINT - The No. 1 bedding retailer in the country slipped a bit last year, but still stands unchallenged at the top of the mattress sales pyramid.

Minneapolis-based Select Comfort, the airbed producer and retailer, once again reigns supreme as the nation's largest bedding retailer. It finished 2007 with bedding sales of $624 million, down 4.6% from the previous year, but is still the only retailer to crack the $600 million mark.

Fast-growing Sleepy's, which posted a 12.8% sales gain last year, once again occupies the No. 2 position, with 2007 sales estimated by Furniture/Today at $485 million.
