Universal Leather taps Beckom for new post

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, August 25, 2008

Joel Beckom has joined hide resource Universal Leather as sales and product development manager, a new position.

Beckom has spent 25 years in leather production, the past five at Leather Master as manager of manufacturing sales and technical services. Earlier, he worked at Branaa Tannery in Uruguay, Leather Miracles and Lackawanna Leather.

Beckom reports to Universal Leather President Ken Kochekian.

“We are expanding our in-house technical services,” said Kochekian. “We have someone at the tanneries in South America but with Joel, we'll now also have someone here in the States. He will work with manufacturers on troubleshooting and technical presentations.”

“With the demand of upholstery leather rapidly approaching available supply, coupled with the demand for more creative finishes (aniline, oil, waxes and hand-antiquing), the emphasis of our work has evolved from sales to solving customer plant and repair issues, product development, education and product service worldwide,” Kochekian added. “The addition of Joel will help us in addressing these current market trends.”

Leather Master is seeking to fill Beckom's post, said President Tony Milano.
