Richmond IFDA to hold seminars, tours

RICHMOND, Va. — The local chapter of the International Furniture and Design Assn. is sponsoring a Day of Design Oct. 7 that will include visits to two of the city's historical properties.
A morning session, open only to industry professionals, will take place in the Bolling-Haxall House. Candace Ord Manroe, author and senior interior design editor with Traditional Home Magazine, will discuss the importance of having work published, while designer Barry Dixon of Barry Dixon Interiors and business consultant Jared Miller of Jared Miller LLC will offer advice a running a business.
The afternoon session, which is open to the public, begins with a tour of the 2008 Richmond Symphony Designer Showhouse, a Greek revival home featuring the work of several local designers. A reception will follow. Copies of “Barry Dixon Interiors,” written by Brian Coleman and featuring photography by Edward Addeo, will be on sale and Dixon will sign books. Proceeds will benefit Embrace Richmond, a local furniture bank that gives gently used furniture to those in need.
Tickets may be bought for each session or the entire day, and orders placed before Aug. 30 will receive a discount.
