FurnitureToday.com sports new options, more content

Chris Schultz, Interactive Program Manager -- Furniture Today, September 8, 2008

FurnitureToday.com has relaunched with a brand new look, increased functionality and more Web exclusive features. I won't bore you with the technical details, but you should see a more responsive site with faster page loads and minimal downtime.

Our parent company, Reed Business Information, is planning to roll out this new technology to all its Web sites, and Furniture/Today was picked as the pilot site for the initial test. Our selection is a testament to our continued strong position in the industry and to the strength and importance of the audience we serve.

The most visible change to our site is the availability of more news and content on the home page. Here is a look at its features:

  • Our Top Stories module now features images to go along with the day's most important articles.

  • Blogs are now front and center with a new module that identifies the most recently updated blog posts. This same module also contains our popular TalkBack feature where you can read the latest comments from readers on articles posted on the Web site. Another new feature within this module is our Photos section, which allows us to post images along with captions of product intros, market parties, events, etc.

  • Our Top Articles module features the five current most popular stories on our site as determined by traffic to these articles. It's a great way to get a quick read on what the industry is looking at.

  • Content from our print issue is posted to our site via the Current Issue module, which features the latest text content from each Monday's issue, plus links to our archived editions, where you can search previous stories.

  • Our News From The Web module features links to industry-related news from our sister publications plus other trusted Web sites that are of interest to our readers. We want to reinforce the fact that FT is the one-stop site for your industry news.

  • With all the different markets, trade shows and meetings to keep up with, we thought it was important to keep an Events module on the home page with important upcoming dates and a link to our extensive industry calendar. Look for the Events link tab in the top navigation bar on all pages. Also note that visitors to the events page may submit industry-related events directly to the site.

  • Below the Events module we have two new editorial spots that allow us to highlight exclusive content that we feel is important to our readers.

  • One of the most convenient new features is our new section of News Channels, which groups our articles under the six most popular categories. Based on traffic to the numerous channels we now have, we can update these categories to reflect what our readers care most about.

So, you've read about the new features, but for a first hand look go test drive the new FurnitureToday.com.
