Joseph Rankin Allred Jr., industry exec

HIGH POINT — Joseph Rankin Allred Jr., who retired after a long career as an executive at furniture sources Bernards and Case-Casard, has died from injuries received in a car accident. He was 78.
An Air Force veteran who served during the Korean conflict, Allred joined the furniture industry in 1957 with Case-Casard Furniture Mfg., where he became executive vice president before resigning in 1984. Later that year, he joined Bernards, where he worked until retiring in 2002 as senior vice president and part owner.
He also served on High Point University's Home Furnishings Advisory Board.
Survivors include his wife, three daughters, two stepsons, a sister, six grandchildren and a cousin. His daughter Laura J. Allred is design director for Continental Ticking Corp. of America, stepson Brett Barbour is a sales representative for Serta, and Brett's wife, Christine Barbour, is senior partner of Barbour Spangle Design Group.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to High Point University or to Open Door Ministries of High Point, 400 N. Centennial St., High Point, N.C. 27262.
